What do you think of it? We're gonna be getting a larger tank sometime down the road and we want to be sure we use the right thing, I personally think egg crates look bad too. If anyone else has an opinion of it, please do say something!!! :happyfish
my tank has been under glass tops for years and years with absolutely no problems. i have a thriving reef. i see no problem with them. another good thing is that you only have to buy them once (unless you break them) they will last forever. they are easy to clean, hot water and a razor blade in the kitchen sink lol. and you can just wipe the salt creep off with a paper towel.

That's what I thought too, but would that prevent enough lighting to go through? I have heard that it can from quite a few people. I personally use glass top cause it's easy to clean, just like you've said. :happyfish

Well, I guess if you use stronger lighting, enough lighting would get through the glass into the tank. What type of lighting do you use? I'm looking at stuffs like orbit and aqua space light. :happyfish

i'm a bit confused...if you dont want to use glass because light loss, etc...and you dont want to use eggcrates because of it melting...what do you use? i use glass on my 10 gallon...havent noticed problems, but that could be me being oblivious....so what would you use? i usually have my lights sit right on the tank to get more light, or i can put them on their legs if needed.

I know in all tanks rather it be fresh water or salt water you have to watch for jumpers and I use a basic top thats two thirds glass and 1/3rd hard plastic. I left this little three by one flap up on the fresh water tank and I found my favorite fish all sad looking with its eyes open and hard as a rock, talk about blaming your self for the death of a loved one. Shows even a little gap can make for an escapee....
