These are the results of our water test, 5 minutes ago. We have had the carbon filter cartridges out for the last 3 days to treat the water with kenomyacin (SP) because our flame angelfish's eye puffed up and then had some white gunk on it. It was clearing up nicely and when we came home from the fish store this afternoon, he was laying on the botton of the tank, not moving. We waited a while, but he didn't get any more energy. He was breathin very rapidly and after about 20 minutes or so, died. Well, we don't know what was wrong with him. Any ideas?
We have had our tank up for a year and a few months. We have had the flame angel for about one week and he was doing fine. Even last night, he was swimming around and doing okay. He had recently been hiding in some rocks, but was eating and seemed fine.
Just a side note, we have decided not to buy any more fish from this particular LFS, because all the fish we have bought from them, that have been in THEIR tanks, died after we got them home. We have gotten a few fish from them, still in the shipping bags that have done fine. They recently had a wrash of dead fish in several tanks and they said they had to recycle some tanks because of the deaths. So, just a note of interest.
If you have read this far...I was just wondering what might have happened to my really pretty angel fish? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Melissa

I am not familiar with that medication. What was the name of it? Pop eye is easily treated. What else do you have in the tank? Medications are never a good idea to be added directly into the display.

kanamycin is what it is actually called. We got it from the LFS after we told them what was going on and they said it would be fine to treat the entire tank.
After reading some of the other entries, it is possible that he was either not eating, or someone was beating him up when we had the lights off.
In the tank:
Fuzzy Dwarf Lion
1 Medium Gold Striped maroon
1 Small gold striped maroon
1 red tipped blenny (sailfin)
1 green chromis
a million snails (4 mexican turbo, 1 conch, 10 narcirus (sp)
So, don't know.

It is certainly possible. Do you have a quarantine tank? If not then think about setting one up. When you buy new fish they will get used to your food and have a chance to calm down without being bullied by other tank members. Should something like this happen then you would be able to treat the fish by itself. It also gives the fish time to be strong, healthy, and confident before meeting the other fish that may, or may not, be thrilled to see him. I am sorry for your loss.
