nice pic.. but i think a real test for the camera is a real close up pic.....

you may want to try pulling back a lot. it seems that you have it on a very wide angle shot. 18mm maybe? also, turn the flash off and shoot in Av mode to get the shortest shutter time for the shot. this will get the best exposure with the tanks light. aslo turn of the lights in the room.

d-slr newbie - pls bear with me -
so , back up and then zoom ?
what is av mode ?, i don't think i saw that in the manual , the d80 has it ? -
use NO flash , shut the lights off and then do what ? for shortest shutter time ?
one shot was auto , the other in sports mode -
