1-for how long
2- what will I need ?
3- any additional info would be great I just upgraded to 120 gal RT from my established 2 year old 55 and It's pretty empty I put in the sump and DT about 100 LB of LR and I ordered 50 more LB's
4- when will i know it's safe to add the rock to my DT.

you will need to mix up some water and put in a qt and run a heater and a powerhead, it is ready for the tank when you see no amm or nitrites in the water then all die off has stopped .

In addition to what the above poster said;
Clean off the rock in SW when you first get it to remove any dead or dying matter.
Then place in a tub or tank to cure it. Put a heater, light if possible, and plenty of powerheads to give a good brisk current.
Remember, the rock is covered and full of life. Treat it as such. Test the water and do water changes to keep Ammonia below 1.0

so if i put it all in the 55 empty gal tank then add mixed sw to it can it be filled halfway as long as the rock is submerged ? then add 2 maxi jet 1200's and a heater can it be a cheap heater ?what should the temp be ?
also how do you clean off the LR to remove dead or dying matter ?

personally i'd fill up the tank all the way, run your powerheads and heaters (for a 55 you'll need at least a 100w no?) and do as 1journey says, keep your eye on the ammonia.
to clean it off, take a 5 gallon bucket of salt water and a semi stiff nylon bristle brush, soak the rock in the water, shake it out in there, then run the brush over the rock, removing anything that looks black and/or REALLY slimey/disgusting smelling.
keep an eye on ammonia and nitrites, once they are zero you could use the rock in the new tank
also, keep an eye out for hitchikers. you'll probably get some that IF they come off the rock, you'll want to get out of there so they don't die from ammonia.

I recently purchased 50 LBS of LR from SWF.com and I love the rock I recieved. I have a thread about the rock and some pics somewhere lol. Mine didn't have any "live" hitchhikers due to it arriving late (not SWF.com's fault) but it did have 2 pieces of favia brain coral!
Not alive of corse but still cool none the less!
Heres a tidbit I found very helpful...I got toothpicks that have a little brush at the end, and it works wonders when you find a "smelly" place on the rock to get the worm...etc...out!!!!
Congrats on your purchase!

Thanks guys I will post pics when the rock arrives I'm very excited, put let me tell you the 120 is a huge difference that the 55 it's much harder to fix things in the tank...it's 32" deep ..whew..
