Just bought new lighting system..... brown stuff?

brown stuff all over tank ...good or bad ? New lighting is 2-250Mh and 2-110w Atc Vhos..

Hey taht is great lighting for that tank. The brown stuff? did you jsut get done with your cycle by any chance?

well had up and running about 3 weeks but just got lights about 4 day ago

Sounds like Diatom algae. This is a normal part of the growing pains of a new tank! No worries! Good luck with the new tank!

depends- mine lasted about 2 weeks- some peoples almost never go away- and that is also normal after a lighting upgrade like that- what kind of snails do you have?

turbo snails about 10

you could probably use a couple more but i wouldnt worry about it- it will clear up- just scrape it off the glass when you see it

ok thanks alot ......about how long should Metal halids run each day .what about Vhos?

if you are doing an up grade run them for only 4 hrs initially and work your way up to 10-12 over a few weeks- otherwise yuo might fry any corals you have- and that can be one cause for a massive algae bloom- for the VHO a lot of people like them to come on 1hr before and 1 hr after the MH.

so if i run for a couple hours (Mh) what sould i run when Mh are off and its the middle of day .....maybe reg lighting?

if you have a reg flo buld you can run it just so your fish arent in the dark the whole time
