Just bought some Base Rock

So I have had some Live rock ($7.99 lb) in my tank for a week or so, about 13 lbs worth.... Today I got some base rock from LFS ($3.99 lb) and it was in a tank that was nothing but clean base rock. My question is, is it "cured"?? and how long will it take for the live rock in my tank to start "rubbing off" onto the newly added base rock?

if it was cleaned and in a tank alone, than its most likely cured. you should start seeing growth on the base rock in like 2 or 3 weeks, but it will take a while for it to look the same as your LR.

funny...I'll have some pics of my tank up soon... Right now I have a yellow tang, tomato clown and a new (yesterday) foxface....Everyones doing well. And I got 8 little sand snails that disappear in the sand until they smell food....Really fun to watch

so the base rock was in a tank? the base rock our lfs sells is just on the shelf and we had to rinse it when we got home with de-chlorinated water and then added it straight into the tank. the only thing it has growing on it currently is brown algae, LOL. of course it is only 2 wks old. we are going to purchase more lr and no more base rock. I was told by lfs that the base rock can take about 9 months to become "live". not sure if that is accurate though.

yea, it will probably take a few months for it to become full LR, but it will get growth on it within a few weeks. i use base rock for my frags, and its like bleach white, within a week, it has growth on it already and within a month it looks the same as my LR, just minus any coraline.
