just got an emperor 400 and it says to use Marineland Black Diamond. First;
this stuff is necessary right?
or
is there something else i can put in these filter bags that is better? anything that makes the water healthier for the fish.

well i know they are saying to use it cuz its their own stuff.. but i am looking at other stuff like Denitrate and other stuff.. just wondering whats best
I have the Emperor 400, I just used the filters it came with. They have carbon in them. At one point I did buy extra carbon and filled the plastic holders with them. But now my tank is 7months old, and better established, so I dont use the extra carbon.
Marineland Black Diamond Carbon is actually one of the best Carbons out there, I run it 24/7, now you may need to use multiple products, like phosphate sponge, but those are the only two things I really use.
I would use anything but Denitrate, I swear I put that stuff in my tank before I had a big nitrate problem and after one week it made my nitrate sky rocket. I have no idea why this happened but I didnt have a problem until I put it in my tank.
