Apple has plenty of their issues with new OS releases.

The difference is, that when Windows has a problem, all media jump on it as if MS just sold the public something that was pulled out of the trash bin. When its Apple, however, the sacred cow of the computer world, then its barely on anyone's radar.
Apple components are no better then pc components. The same companies making pc components also make mac components. The difference is that Apple marks it up by several hundred bucks and then won't let you upgrade.
Plenty of folks still use desktops. Go into most office buildings and homes and you will see more desktops then Ipads or MacBook pros.
Attacks are more frequent on MS OS because MS is the world's leading computer software maker. Adequate virus and malware programs will resolve attacks. PC does not own the market on virus attacks; there are plenty of that for the Apple OS as well. Difference is, the media tells us more about the problems with PC and very little about Apple's problems.
The mainstream users for Macs, from my own perception, seem undereducated regarding the Apple computers they own, yet will glow when they tell you how wonder the product is. Now, of course, not all are clueless....but many are, including the associates working in their stores.
Office environments use desktops simply for the benefit of reduced cost, and most business desktop applications are geared towards the Windows OS environment. However, with the prices of laptops coming down in price, and are essentially the same prices as most desktops businesses use, many major corporations are handing out laptops to their employees. It gives the employee more flexibility. Need to share a presentation or business document to other employees? Pick up your laptop and take it with you. This also gives employers the capability of letting their employees work from home if need be. As far as houses? I'd say 98% of my business associates, customers, friends, and relatives either have laptops or tablets, whether they are Apple products, Microsoft-driven products, and in some cases, Linux-based products. Everyone is mobile these days. They have no interest being tethered to a desktop when they can buy a laptop or tablet that can essentially do the same thing. The majority of people spend their time online. If I want to play some game, I play it on my Xbox 360 or PS3. I can do anything I need for my business or personal use on my laptop. Laptops don't need a network cable attached to them. With most desktops, you have to buy an expensive wireless adapter card, or eat up a USB port sticking a wireless dongle on it.
Microsoft is losing its moniker as the "leading computer software maker". Major corporations have moved to Linux-based servers to run their major business applications. Of course Apple products are susceptible to virus and malware attacks. The media tells us more about Microsoft problems because their software is severely flawed as gets hacked on a daily basis. I refuse to run Internet Explorer simply because it's the worst browser ever made. If Microsoft OS is so well built, why do they dump 10 - 15 patches almost every other week on "Patch Tuesday" to fix obvious bugs and vulnerabilities? My wife hadn't shut her laptop down for a couple of weeks, and when she finally did it took 30 minutes to come down because Microsoft had pushed 57 updates to her laptop she didn't even know were downloaded to it. I had to introduce her to the world of Automatic Windows Update.
As far as clueless users, I could make the same argument about people who own Microsoft-based OS devices. And you think those kids that work for Geek Squad at Best Buy are informed any better than those kids that work at the Apple store? Based on the one's I've talked to, I can guarantee you that's an incorrect assessment.
