Just Curious

I was just wondering what corals/ inverts could stay out of water for a while because I heard in the wild corals actually are out of the water for a short period of time.

Don't take sponges out of the water!
Research the coral origin/habitat. Shallow water corals are the ones regularly exposed to air. Many deeper water ones will tolerate it, but don't see a benifit.

If it doesn't have gills/lungs then it likely will not suffocate out of it's natural habitat. Most corals are also colonies of small critters rather than a single large organisim, that means that no part is depending on another to ship it oxygen, it can absorb it right from it's surface. Might not want to let it dry out though. Only moist membranes can absorb oxygen.
