Thanks so much

QT QT QT!

Always QT tangs or you'll more than likely end up with ich. Trust me, I know this from personal experience.

Any way, this one will be the same basic care as other blue tangs. Be careful not to put it in with a regular blue hippo tang or they'll fight, and be ready with your upgrade plan in advance. I know you have a 120, just be sure that when you move this one over to that tank that it's the only blue hippo. I thought I saw on one thread that you had a regular blue hippo, but I could be mistaken. Best of luck!

Do you have another tank that one of them can eventually go in after the QT period? You can try it out, but hippo tangs can certainly hold their own when being antagonized, and they're the same family, so I'm fairly certain they'll fight.

Just for future reference, it might be a good idea to research before you buy.

i have a 72 i just got but its not running...my 10 leaked and i threw it out last night bujt the garbage men did not take it..
..right now i have an 80 gal with semi aggresive fish in it but there is a tang in there...the 120 has ick in it and is almost donw with the cycle...all the fish from the 120 are being qt in a 55 and i have this 55 empty running nicely for a while with a nice sb and 20 lb of LR and some sponges....so i have 2 choices put the 3 inch blue tang in the 80...with another tang its a zebrosema family tang they should get along...but im iffy on 80 gal for 2 tangs...or put him with the 55 qt of my fi sh that were from the 120...there is no LR in there and they wont fight since its chaotic like 12 fish in there so no territory issues...basically help...my plan was to qt the yellow belly in the 55 with the blue tang for now...i told u availability whats tthe best move ?
thanks

You're best bet is to temporarily acclimate to the 55 that's NOT in hypo even though the other blue tang is in there, as long as there are hiding places for them to both go to. Keep a very close eye on both fish for injuries and be prepared to figure something else out just in case.
The fish will likely die if you try to acclimate to the tank that's in hypo, because the salinity is so far off from what they'll likely have the tanks at your LFS set to. Alternately you don't want to put it in the 80g because it hasn't been QT'd and you don't want that tank to end up with ich.
This is research, yes, but it's best to find out this info before you buy. And I make it a habit to never listen to the people at my LFS.

SH, you really, really, really, really, need ot get your tank healthy, get them arranged the way you want, decide what fish and livestock to purchase, then make a list and stick to it.
You keep buying fish that long term you are not going to be able to provide for.
This hobby is bad for impulse shopping. The other poster is right, research before you buy. You wouldn't go into a pet store and by a rare reptile or mammal without knowing something about it, the same should be done for fish.
Not trying to lecture ya, just want to see you get the most out of the hobby.

The Hippo should quickly out grow either tank.
Glad you don't have the Yellows, too

I'm not sure weather to go with the yellow belly in the 120 with a purple tang or put him alone in my 80 and the smaller blue tang with the purple in the 120...i have time to figure it out as I will qt these two regal tangs for 3-4 weeks while keeping an eye on them if they get along so far so good !
