Just noticed

I've had a piece of lr in my 20 gal for about 2 months now. Tonight I noticed that there is a little tiny (1/8") feather duster coming out of it. It's a cool looking red one.
Tried to get a pic of it, but it's too small for my camera to pick it up.

I saw 2 bristle worms the day after I put it in. I saw tubes on the rock that could have been from previous fd's, but nothing ever appeared until tonight. Or, at least that I noticed.

It took mine awhile to come out, I think it was because I had Heniochus Butterfly. But they died from stress and ich. The new lights I got was heating up the tank to 84 during the day which I wasn't home to check, it lowers to 78 at night and that's when I get home when the MH's are off. I didn't know until one day when I came home early to check why they were like that. They were too far gone to save, but after they died, ALL the creatures showed up, at least I was able to save the other fishes in my tank and gone into Reef now, couldn't have the butterflies with the reef so it was a good thing that they died and cause they had sooo much ich on them, it would of made a million of those ich babies causing my other fish to get'em, but also a bad thing, didn't really want them to die, prefer trading them in for something else, they were very nice fish. We're thinking about getting another tank to put Heniochus Butterfly again, we really like those fish. :happyfish

I got the first feather duster on mine within about a week after putting it in the tank. Another one popped up a week or so later. It's now four weeks later, and I've been staring at the rock incessantly the last few days because I'm getting a bunch of hydroids in there (mild cause for concern). In the process I've discovered that there are now feather dusters everywhere! I discovered a good ten new ones today: some white, some red; most tiny but a couple about a half inch across. Nice to see!

It's also a sign you have a significant amounts of nutrients within your water column. :happyfish

Bad thing? Good thing? I'll be adding the first non-cleanup-crew inhabitants to the tank in the next few months, including some soft corals. Too much nutrients a bad thing?

Could be good could be bad. The presence and proliferation of feather dusters and sponges while in the absence of any nuisance algae shows that you have just the right amount of nutrients in your water
