Just saw the wierdest think at my LFS

I just went in to get a mushroom rock I have been wanting and I noticed they got a new shipment of fish in, so of course I browse around. Well in one tank I saw a tag on it that said baby cowfish. I looked in the tank and didn't see them. Turns out there were two of them in it. Each no more than a 1/4 of an inch in length. Smallest things I have ever seen. I don't even know how you would feed them. I surely wouldn't buy one that small. Anyways, I just had to share, it seemed so strange to see them in a store being that small. If they were wild caught I'm amazed they made the journey without dying at that size.

But don't they release toxins only when they are stressed or feeling threatened by something?
Yeah, Cowfish are pretty cool, especially with those horn things on their heads.

our local lf got one in too awhile back. Very cute. I would have loved one. Then he proceeded to tell me that he wasn't happy he got it in his shipment because they are very are to feed and if they stress out and die, they poison the whole tank.:(
That is amazing giving how cute they are, Seem very busy little things.

My store usually gets one in every month or so. I have seen them in there a few times. It is true that they can release toxins when stressed but it doesn't happen as often as people think. I know that Plum70RT on here has one in his tank.

maybe he will post a pic of his....I wonder what else he has in his tank. Our tank is very docile. clown,mandarine,firefish,goby...
I could watch those cowfish swim around for hours.

I hope Plum doesn't mind. Found this pic in another thread. The cowfish is in the far side of the shot.

A LFS has a couple that are pretty big. And as posted above, unless constantly harassed by other fish or other stress like that, it'll be fine. They do get a pretty good size, though. Very cool fish.
