lights 359.00 760w mh brand new at aquatraitors now i would go with different ones but that is as cheap you will find for new i would look here in the classifieds for a better quality product if you get corals you will also need about 2250 gph flow in your tank they got some new ones i can't think of the name but 2 of those will give you 2400 gph they are about 60.00 each you will need reef salt too might as well start out that way, quality test kits, a good book or 2 lots o patience there is a saying in this hobby only bad stuff happens fast hope that helps...tobin

ive got extra money set aside for everything but the lights and sump, just not sure how much i need, i mean i want a good light system, but i dont wanna go over board, why buy a McClearen for $900,000. when you can get a ferari for $200,000.. if that makes any sence

You have it all wrong....
When you are playing with your Reef and any friend that also has a tank comes by- they dont say ..."Wow!. that sure is an awesome bottom line model that will functionally suit your needs but doesnt look fancy unit you have there".
Difference between a functional lighting set up and a GREAT lighting set up is around 50% in price.
The bottom price is so high already whats an extra 50% over the longevity of the system. If you are inpulsive of dont know if you will be into a reef for the long haul then perhaps a used lesser fixture fits the build, but if you really want a nice showpiece tank, then lighting matters. No way around it.

Well i have to say you aren't looking in the right place! There are 3 shops here in town that do nothing but salt water, then you have other that do everything else.
What you need to do is go see Rob down at New Mexico Reef, talk to him and pick his brain, I personally don't agree with everything he says, But you can not argue with the results! He has Fantastic tanks and has probably forgotten more then i will ever know!
Welcome to the addiction!

Btw if you want to talk email me your info , Cymarik@aol.com
