There are two Juv. Red Coris Wrasse's at a LFS and they are having a 25% off sale this weekend. They are $30 listed and thought about getting one because of the nice redish orange color with 3 white patches on top of their back. Are these reef safe? This site has monitor in reefs and was curious if anyone else has them and if they pick at Zoo's and mushrooms being thats all I have.
thanks,
Paul

These are pictures of my mature Coris wrasse-they are great hardy fish-big eaters-but they will also eat some crustaceons-small crabs-small snails-and they need a good sand bed to sleep in-they sleep under the sand. My wrasses do not bother any of my corals at all. Do you have a picture? There are alot of different types! And they change colors and can look very different as they mature.:happyfish :happyfish

Not very hardy, as juveniles. Not reef safe...will eat any and all inverts. As adults, they will also pick up and move even large pieces of live rock, toppling corals.
I had mine for a very long time...aprox. 12" - 14" long and would often pick up pieces of rock that were large (a few pounds, in weight), carry them around and drop them in different places, around the tank.
They're also aggressive to highly aggressive, as adults. Mine would often harass and attack a 5" - 6" Queen Trigger.

Hello-well I cannot speak for all wrasses only the ones I have-yes the bigger ones can be very assertive and should be with bigger fish-not sure of all the compatibilities with other fish -I have a bird wrasse, my coris and a pinklined wrasse-they are some of the bigger wrasses-they do fine with my tangs-and yes they are big eaters like I said and they need a good sand bed to sleep in-except my bird-he sleeps in the rock. And yes my big bird will eat ornamental shrimp and occasionally snails and small crabs and definitely sallys. My other 2 did not bother the bigger shrimp. None of my wrasses have ever bothered my rock or coral. Now my gobie does move the empty shells and little pieces of rock that are on the sand and makes piles! But again-there are a lot of different wrasses - so just research sites related to wrasses! :happyfish :happyfish
