Hi! I have a 2'' Juvi Emperor Angel. I had him for about 1 week and half now. His loosing his colors and have some round blotches on his body. The fish is eating well and moving normal. He got no ICk on his body just his color is turning whitish. Just wondering is their any chance I could get this fish back to his normal color? or thus he has a disease? whats the cure? All of my other fish are doing fine its only my emperor angel Im having a probem. Thanks for all the advice...

there is only one of two reasons why your fish is fading aka getting blotchy. one is through the diet and having the fish for one week would not make him fade that quickly. the other is stress and more than likely that stress is that your water quality is not perfect. if you test your water, your water will have either nitrates, nitrites or ammonia in it or the ph will be off. plus i don't know what size tank you have but perhaps you don't have the right size or hiding spaces for the angel.

I put him on my other tank 55 gallon with closely 40 pounds of live rock with one firefish and a clownfish. Maybe i should check my water but I do water change ones a week.

Make sure your alk, temp is in the correct range. What do you feed the angel? You also just need to make sure your water quality is good. what is your pH? It should be stable more then anything. Ocean water ranges from 7.6 in the open ocean to 8.4 in the reef areas with the average being 7.8. Most will try to keep it 8.2 to 8.4. I keep mine 7.82 to 7.95 because I can't get it any higher. The colors on my fish are fine and I really don't think pH will make the colors change or the sides go blotchy. I really think the probelm is diet more then anything or possible harrassment from others.

i've known people that do water changes pretty often like you and still can't control their nitrates and ammonia. do a water test and you will know for sure.

In my opinion a 55 gallon is way too small for an Emperor. I don't mean to be a tank size Nazi but thats really pushin it. He's most likely feelin cramped which is stressing him causing him to lose color.

hey reefboy, i know a 55g will be too small for any large angel in the long run , but a two inch juvi!! thats being way too anal about the fish size thing. how can a 2 inch fish be cramped and stressed out in a four foot tank unless the tank was already full of fish ?? I would say it is either water quality, wrong food or the fish was already sick when he was purchased,

well I check my water paremeters are fine pH at 8.3. Nobody in the tank harrases him. I feed him brine shrimp, flakes and pellets and he eats everything. His swims normal and keeps picking on the liverocks. I dont know what to do. Do you guys think that he will make it??? His actually not sick when i purchase him because I saw him healthy before I bought him. He was 3 weeks on lfs when i bought him. What kind of food you guys feed your fish???

Forget the brine shrimp - they are like feeding air. I have had a juvie for several monthsnow, and it eats Formula Two, Formula Angel Diet, mysis shrimp, frozen krill (chopped) and Spectrum pellets. The frozen Formula foods are the mainstay, the others are variety foods. It went through a period of looking terrible, and even had a case of HLLE. I still soak all his foods in Zoe and Selcon - you might try that

what were your nitrates nitrites and ammonia levels? if they are all zero you have nothing to worry as far as parameters go. if you have just a little bit you want to make them zero by doing a water change. also how long have you had your tank up and running because if you've had it less than a year, that could be a reason i forgot to mention before. these fish need established tanks in order to thrive. you will have to buy a large angel formula such as hikari mega marine angel or the ocean nutrition formula for large angels that has sponge in it as it's main diet. you also want to feed it nori aka seaweed daily. you can also mix in his diet mysis and formula 2 flake which will make his diet well rounded. i have a queen that has the same diet requirements and have had him for 4 plus years.

your probably right about my tank is only 6 months old. Ok I have formula one frozen and mysis at home I think ill switch to that I also have formula flake food and pellets. I soaked my frozen food with garlic also and some vitamins. Well thanks for all the advice I just hope he makes it because he's a beautiful fish.
