I have to agree with you. The bulb from JBJ sucks, but the fixture is nice. Try to change the Bulb to Hamilton. I did it and it looks better. my 2 cents.

I just put one on my tank too. The clamp is pretty sorry. No problems with my light yet, I have read that a lot of people have had problems with the bulbs and the ballast too.

maybe try to return it. Buy the sunpod 70 watt hqi. this is an awesome light. I love it and I think De likes hers too.

my bulb already crapped out on me. I had it running one day, next day went to turn it on and NOTHING. I'm pretty heated about this, I paid good money for something that doesn't even work properly.

mine did the same thing...make sure the bulb is in there good, i put the fixture away for months and just decided to mess around with it the other day and noticed that. You probably checked already but have a look.

I read that the bulb gets too hot because there is no cooling for it and then go's out.
i think im going to mount a heatsink on the top of mine to allow it to cool a little better.

My new bulb came today, but I checked the old bulb again and it still didn't work. Put the new one it and it worked fine.
