Would jumping in a pool or lake make Advantage ineffective?
Also, is it less effective near the time you are supposed to reapply?
I found a flea on ME today after playing with a husky puppy :( Now Im worried about Benny...

Just try to keep them dry for 48 hours after application. All thats going to be absorbed will be by then.
As far as less effective, maybe, if you are worried about it and your dogs are healthy and you wanna spend the money you can dose every 3 weeks.
I will say this tho, I would use frontline.
Frontline works better for dogs
Advantage works better for cats

If your dog bathes or swims frequently it is recommended that you apply it more often (or use a non-topical treatment) but that's more than once a week of getting wet. and yes, efficacy can be reduced near to when you are due for more, especially if your dog swims a lot. it doesn't just "time out" on the day it's due, rather a gradual wear-down :)
If your dog has been exposed (like to the husky puppy) and you're nearly due for your advantage I would go ahead and do it again. I like advantage for both dogs and cats, I don't have any experience with frontline as it's an American product, but I've heard good things.

Personally I do use Frontline Plus but stock/sell Frontline Plus, Advantix and revolution. These are all topical products that work well for flea/tick control.
Many clients prefer one over the other so we stock all three.
The Frontline and Advantix are 'labeled' as being effective for flea control for three months. IMHO..No way. Apply monthly and as another poster indicated I would not bathe the patient 24-48 hours Before or After an application. They do lose their effectiveness with time and with excessive weating/drying of the skin..like swimming daily in Florida (yes, I am jealous).
If you have a bad infestion I would ask your vet for a prescription of Capstar.
It is an oral med that will kill every flea on the dog or cat..BUT, has no residual activity. If a dog/cat comes in infested we use Capstar, then apply
Frontline or Advantix.
While I have no scientific proof, it does seem that Frontline works better on dogs and Advantage on cats??

I have 2 dogs and 5 cats, and for us Frontline has not been effective AT ALL. I only use Advantage.

If the flea was on you, doesn't that mean it jumped off the dog, which is what you want?
Or were YOU using the Advantage?

I have a Husky, and use Advantix (That's Advantage plus tick prevention).
We still get a tick every now and then, but other than that, I have noticed no issues.
Just make sure you get the medicine onto the skin, not the fur. As you know, huskies have a double layer of fur, so you gotta fight your way through to apply it.
