We did file a report with the police but they were WAY less than helpful. WAY LESS. I actually asked the guy if we were keeping him from something more important. I asked them to finger print some things that we knew had been touched and he refused saying it would be a waste of time.
We have insurance but with only damage and a missing MP3 player I don't feel a claim would be good in the long run. Crappy thing is they not only destroyed the double door in the back by kicking it in but they tore up the framing as well. Good news is we upgraded to steel french doors and I replaced all of the framing as well as the rotten seal plate under the door. Solid as a rock now. Of course that's not stopping them from going around the side of the house and knocking out a window.

I had thought about keeping the dogs out but I'm worried they would be a "threat" to an intruder they might be killed even though they are by no means attack dogs. I'd rather them be in their cages and be safe. heck I pay insurance so my stuff can be replaced. Can't replace my furry children.

a dog is the #1 deterant for home invasions. just seeing a dog or hearing one usually gets a intruder to move to the next house. unless you have been specificly targeted for some reason

First off, Morval is right. Also it sounds like there were some bored teens who saw your MP3 player and thought it would be a thrill to take it.
And yes this was not Karma, unless you pushed over some little old lady in the store. Karma is "what goes around comes around" what you did was Jinx yourself. You needed to knock on wood after you made the comment.....
No matter what it is, it just plain SUCKS!!!!! So sorry this happened to you.

You've got the right idea.
Also, if a thief breaks in and is attacked by your dogs then game over, you lose. In the state of Texas it's called "excessive force". Your dogs would be destroyed and you would be liable for the thieves hospital bills.
Gotta love the law.

well congrats on the new doors - i'm really really gald to hear no1 was hurt. it does sound like some bored kids or some1 trying 2get in2 a gang or something saw the mp3 player thru the window and just went after it.
i think keeping the dogs in their crates is a good idea; they can still bark (which is most of the deterrent), and they'll be harder to steal!! You'd be flabbergasted to know how many dognappings there have been lately. people steal dogs and either sell them as pets or use them as bait in fights. but if they're in big heavy crates, pple wont be able to just carry 'em out.

Well I made a comment on an older thread in here about the older guy that shot two people in Texas. Basically my comment was if someone broke in my house I would not hesitate to kill them.
Well I got home from work Monday and someone had broken in our house in broad daylight. It's Karma man...
So... I need to know where you all were between the hours of 1 pm and 5 pm on Monday...
Its a good thing that you didn't shot the guy that broke into your house. some guy shot a burglar that was trying to steal his car and now sentenced for two years in jail.. what a good job are government does.
I though you could shoot someone if they did break int your house?
anyway here in the link if you feel like reading it.

Thanks Tizzo, the fish tank is good. I half expected it to be vandalized but it's in the basement and I don't think the person who broke in made it that far. My buddy helped a friend tear down a 1000 gallon tank yesterday because of a leak and he brought me a bag of coraline to seed my tank...
