Is there any advantage/disadvantage to keeping the coralline algae on the back glass? Or is best just to scrape it off? Bought my tank with coralline all over the back glass and haven't done anything to it.
Unless you moved the tank with water in it the coralline algae will probably not live. However, if it is still alive it is good to have on the back glass as long as you don't intend on seeing throught it. Where ever the coralline algae is nuisance algae will not grow.
if you scrape it, people may be interested in it by the way. i have 2 color purple coralline's in my tank and they are starting to grow on the glass, the bottom of my overflow box, and my powerheads. weird they aren't growing on the baserock though.
It's all a matter of opinion. A clean black background creates a great feeling of depth to the tank. It is a huge pita to keep clean however. I'm trying to figure out how to keep my new setup clean on the back wall.
Thanks for all the advice. Snookedsteve, was wondering why the a lot of the coralline fell off when I set it up. Didn't realize they died. I did transport it with 10 gallons still in the tank for the live sand. Yeah! It was heavy, but had good help. Coraline on the LR survived. Think i'm more interested in keeping the nuisance algae off, but may scrape some of the top area and do as you do, Yeffre Kix. Is black better than dark blue for background? Thanks all!

It's just a matter of preference. I do like the black better.Take a look at photos of reefs on here and see which you prefer. I beleive there was a poll a few months ago about blue vs black with examples of each.
A lot of reefers just let the coraline cover the back (as I used to) because of the difficulty in cleaning it.
