Keeping Sand White

I have had my tank up and going for about 6 months now.. And I have allways had a problem keeping my sand white...... What is the best way to do this? What would happen if I added more sand on top of the existing sand? Is that ok to do?

I Just started adding livestock in the last 3 weeks. Taking it slow.

My sand is staying white, but I have a lot of crap building up on top of it. I have some old crap shells that have broken into pieces. It's really annoying to look at so I'm kind of in the same boat as you guys.

If the tank is big enough a conch will work wonders!!
