kent nitrate sponge question

I think its a scam, denitrification does not accure in high current areas. If it removes ammonia like it says it can them that may help prevent nitrates. Best to just do water changes if you have high nitrates. You can leave it in as surface area for bio filtering organisms to grow on but they are not the kind that break down nitrates. IMO

thats about right after they absorb max capacity if not removed the nitrates will leach back into your system.

I totally agree. I have never seen anyone with a good experience with this product.

I used it and it worked really good in my tank. My nitrates were way high I was doing like 50% water changes (no livestock) to try and get them down. I also put the nitrate sponge in a mesh bag and left it in my sump for about a week and it worked just how I wanted it too. I won't work with nitrates under 10 though.
