Kent Ro/Di Unit

Hey you all I have the Kent HiS 35GPD RO/DI unit. I was told awhile back that after 6 months or so, I have to change the membrane. Is the person talking about the membrane that sits in the horizontal chamber on top of the unit? Also, do I need to change anything else and when? I have been using the unit since February for top offs and 5 gallon water changes (1-2 times a month). Any info. would greatly be appreciated!!

I'm certainly no expert, but I think you can get more than 6 months out of a membrane. It may need flushed though. I am not familiar with the kent unit, but on mine it has flow valve you can open up that will flush the membrane.
Your best bet to know how well it is working is to get a tds meter. they can be had for about 25 bucks. I've been told than any tds under 10 is fine.
I was told that the membranes are so expensive that you are better off to buy a new unit. I purchased mine on ---- from aquasafe canada for $70 for 100gpd. It works great and gives me water with a TDS of 1. Its not 0, but it is pretty darn close. My tap water is about 550 so that gives you an idea of how much better it is.

the information you are looking for came with the unit or can be viewed at the Kent Marine website. a synopsis: the two cylinders on the left-hand side are, from left, sediment filter and carbon, change them every six months, they are inexpensive. the RO unit sits on top and is good for 3 to 5 years and the DI is on the right and will change colors when exhausted. as stated, a tds meter will test water product quality.
