Killer Emerald Crab!

Urgh, I stepped away from my tank to get something in my room and i come back five minutes later to see my emerald crab already about half done with my cleaner shrimp! It had never shown much aggression before towards the shrimp before so i am wondering if it died in that 5 minute span i was gone, oh well it died one way or the other. Guess i'll wait a while on another shrimp. So far 0 for 2. Kept one for two days before my clown killed it. this one for a month.

I have two in my tank and they haven't caused any problems yet... oh well...

my emerald doesnt seem to bother anything. he just comes out at night to feed off the lr. i guess im lucky, but i will be watching him though.

I'm not insulting your knoweldge or anything. But are you sure the shrimp did not molt? I had a insadecent like this one and it was in fact a molt I found rather than a dead shrimp.

I have a big emerald crab that likes to knock over my corals. He even lifts up the heavy ones but I've never seen him kill anything. <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />

Nope definitely wasnt teh molt, my shrimp had molted two days before. The crab was pciking the inside tissue out and stuff so i know it was the real thing. When i decided that shrimp was on the menu for that evening, i meant mysis shrimp, not cleaner shrimp. I guess my fish heard but my emerald is hard of hearing.

i've had my emerald crab in my tank from the very beginning and he's never messed with anything. he does though like to pick up rocks or corals if he doesn't like where they are at. he finally stopped doing that though when he realized i was boss and the rock and coral weren't going anywhere.

I had 2 back when my reef completed its origional cycle....they have since departed... <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" /> ...But recently I added 4 new ones in order to gain control of a developing bubble algae issue....sure hope they leave everything alone except for the valonia!!!I have heard stories of renagade emeralds....just don't want to have to deal with one in my system....but I have got to say I've never had a problem except for knocking stuff over....
