ric--
i'm friggin bored with the hobby as well, but i think it has more to do with my wallet being frozen and because i am taking care of the baby more than the tank.
i did though finally sell some corals and made some decent money doing so though :)

I was getting bored with watching the corals and fish some, however I like setting up new systems and designing them. I by no means have the money to constantly do this, so I decided to open a live fish store :D
I know that wouldn't work for everyone, and I don't suggest it. It's more work then you think it would be!

If that were the case then I would have been out a year ago. I don't have the set up that I would like to have, but I am not even close to bored with what I have. I know what kind of tank I could be running if I had the funds to do so, but I don't have the funds at this time. I would love nothing more than to have a large, extravagant, system that I am positive that I could keep. I simply can't right now. I never get board with my guys at all. I look at my tank and what can be done with it, but if you don't have the funds then you don't have the funds. Believe me, I look at my tank every day and know what it could, and will, be. I just can't do it at this time.
+1... I am always enthusiastic about watching my corals grow out and fragging them, not yet but hopfully soon. The waiting is exciting and although it will take a while I enjoy watching my fish interact with eachother.
I too, long for the "Ideal" set up large tank perfect plumbing etc etc... financially bound as well, and also space... I would have to move somethings around in my house to get the size tank I want.. LOL. For the last 3 years I have been paying for day care for my daughter full time... talk about financial restraints, it makes me sick that I pay an extra

[hr]
payment a month for a baby sitting service... I know I know its much more than that now days and my daughter has benifited exponentially from it but its a tough check to write. I often wonder what my fish tanks would be like with that extra $$.
IMO, dont give up, we all get into these ruts every now and then.

Do you have any old action figures? If so bury them in the sand up to their knees to mimic an underwater battle. That would be wicked sweet.

Yea then tuck some mysis under their arms and video the carnage as all of your inverts and what ever attack them as if it were some B rated Sci Fi Movie you would see on the Sci Fi channel... That sounds hysterical.. hey that just gave me an idea.... he he he.

I felt like that once too but I think there still so much coral I don't have and plus the time for it to grow is part of the fun. So if you quit now it will only make you miss it again and someday you'll find yourself coming back to it and go even bigger. As for expensive I find a lot more ways to go around it now than I did before. Just hang with it and see how long it will last before you really did decide.

Hey I tell ya what. Post us a full picture of your tank, what fish you have in it at the moment and maybe you can get some really good suggestions.
I to about 3 months ago, was just about to fold my 10 gal nano of 4 yrs. I understand where the loss of interest comes from. Every Dec/Jan those are the hardest bleak times of the year. You get that need to buy to change something......

I am starting to really understand that even with a nano tank you have to have very interesting things to see and watch in it.
I have always had clowns mainly, I love these fish dearly and will probably have one all the time.
They can be quite boring little fish, just bobbing up and down rolling the anemone etc.
Just recently I have taken back to the LFS my black and white Saddleback clown. She was getting to big, creating a sand storm in the tank, destroying an anemone that had split and was quite tiny. She really needs a bigger tank.
I now have 1 false perc, 1 firefish, 1 yellow watchman goby It is very interesting how my mood changed once I added this firefish, it is always right out infront. Beautiful color fun to watch and then the bobbing clown still does its thing, the watchman pokes its head out, cruises around the tank and just adds that splash of color too.
I also added some very small frags of stary polyps, button polyps, and a red open brain.
My interest is there now.......

Post us a pic

Sell everything you got to me...really cheap

1) If you can't handle it, get out.
2) If you are looking for attention with a new thread, good job, you got it.
3) If you are looking for symphathy & encouragement, then you did the right thing by posting. But don't let the fishies suffer because of your boredom.
I can handle it. I'm not looking for attention... that was a bit negative was it not? lol. And sympothy is not my game, nor is letting my fish suffer. My tank looks healthier than ever it's just I'm not sure what the next step is.

What should you do?? get tougher corals.

I think you should start breeding MO.
I have a reef tank along with a few others. My reef tank is boring. It is where all my visitors at parties look first, but to me, it is boring. I might spend 2 minutes a day looking to be sure a new frag is where it is supposed to be, but once the tank is full, really what else is there?
But, my breeding stock fascinates me every time I go in my basement. I really love the time I get to turn on some tunes, and watch my juvenile fish play. You know how puppies and kittens are fun to watch, but when they get older, we just love 'em? Juvenile fish really seem to play, explore and interacts. We don't get that in a reef tank.
You could use your reef to grow some quick growing frags to sell to make moola for the fun part? Get some zenia! People still buy it!
I'm considering breeding bangaii cardinals.

This sure isn't a cheap hobby, that's for sure. But if you have everything setup, you can just watch the fish and coral grow and enjoy that. Now if you're REALLY bored with the hobby, you should definitely sell everything to someone who can put in the time to properly care for the tank. Don't let your fish and coral suffer and be neglected.
Im not selling. Tank is healhier than ever. Where did you people get the idea that i was getting out? smilies/shrug.gif" border="0" alt="" title="shrug" class="inlineimg" /> maybe I worded it wrong

and for the last time I AM NOT GETTING OUT OF THE HOBBY! geeze I don't check this thread all day and look what happens
but in all seriousness, I'm not looking for attention I want to further my aquarium's stunning-ness (is that even a word?) so any suggestions are still welcome.

ric...that was a joke. As many wild posts as you have put up, I thought for sure you would have gotten it. If you are serious about your tank, you are talking stupid. As much time as you have invested in this hobby, don't give it up dude
If $ is holding you back, slow down and regroup, but not many people have the knowledge that you have in this area.

you're a young guy aren't you? there are plenty of ways to make money to support the habbit. there are also tons of ways to get things cheaper than at the lfs. i started my job at the lfs so i could get everything for cheap. i get supplies and fish at cost now. i've also seen quite a few people here from WY. maybe get together and help each other out.
