kind of stupid question.

I have a 29g and I recently switched from CC to a DSB. I only have 85 watts of light and my question was....Does this actually put me in a better situation because now my tank is 12" deep instead of 16"?

Not a stupid question. :) $" closer to the bulb give everything quite a bit more light. That's one reason why Watts per gallon is just a general guideline and not a rule.

My tank has been running for over a year now...maybe it's time to actually put a fish in the fishtank. It sounds strange, but I really can't decide on what I like and the ones I do like are too big for my tank. All I have are some turbo snails, a CBS, and 1 blue leg hermit that seems to be a serial killer. He rubbed out a scarlet hermit and took his shell and recently bumped off a turbo snail and took his shell. I always catch the CBS eating the remains of what died, or maybe the CBS is the one on the murdering rampage and the innocent hermit just moves into the empty shells....although I find that hard to believe.

wow, yeah adding fish to your tank, sounds like a good next step. THEN you can have a fish tank instead of just a tank! i do know what you mean though, i'm really careful and take my time when it comes to deciding which fish, nothing like a year though! also, your killer could be either the CBS or the hermit. both have the reputation.

It was easier to pick out freshwater fish. I used to get oscars and then have to bring them back to the pet store when the seemed to crowed for a 90g. I would say the biggest fish I ever had was a silver arrowana. I remember you could buy them at the pet store and they were swimming around with the yolk sack still attached. They would be 2-3 inches when you bought them and then stand back because it seems like they never stop growing.

yeah i totally agree with that, i never have a problem with FW fish. basically you can just go and pick out a fish and drop it in your tank, and it will be fine. i know im oversimplifying, but compared to the amount of research necessary for SW fish, FW fish are a snap.

I think I might start out with a jawfish now that I have a DSB. I've always wanted a Coral Beauty, but now I find out that they MAY be reef safe.
