Liked their first 2 CDs.... not much after that. They were originally singing very classic Newfie songs and then they mainstreamed it.
I want good ole lyrics like "That ole black Rum's got a hold on me like a dog wrapped 'round my leg". That's words Newfs can associated with!
I never appreciated home while I lived there. It was an Island and I wanted off. But it was actually darn close to paradise if you could live through the weather. I rode big ole Newfoundland dogs as a child, stayed on family owned islands during summer break (family were fisherman). We could play all day in the woods and the ocean and the folks knew we were safe. I mean, we would loose a friend or two every winter pan hopping, but other than that, life was terrific. Pan hopping was when the weather warmed up and the packed ice slabs would start to move out of the bay. we would hop from pan to pan. Sometimes you hit a corner of one that wasn't as deep as you thought, and it would turn over. You had to hop onto another pan before it flipped or you would be trapped underneath.... great fun.
Sorry.... I'm really home sick. The folks are planning a trip down and I haven't seen them into 2 years. It's all I can think about.
You also have us to thank for your Labrador retrievers.
I have all of their albums but the newest one, but I agree, their earlier stuff is much better. Seems that ever since they added a real drummer their music is going downhill. They do still have some good songs on the newer albums though. The River Driver is one of my favorites of theirs.

Sounds like a great place to grow up! I would have loved it!
