Kobe Bryant scored 81 points last night against the Toronto Raptors. Wow! I'm not a fan of Kobe Byrant at all, but that's amazing. Is this just an amazing one time performance or does anybody think he'll reach Wilt's record? There's all this hype I was just curious of some opinions?

Like you I am not a Kobe fan but I am impressed with his 81 points. He had 18 points via the charity line, 56 came from 2 pointers and 21 from 3 pointers...if all 81 points came from him standing under the net and dunking I'd say big deal but the guy had a great shooting night.

Yeah he must of had an awesome game no doubt. I just hope this doesn't boost his ego any higher then it already is. He's hands down one of the most cocky nba players. He's been decent, but nothing to impressive with out shaq until the last night. I just think his ego is way to big for as good as he is. Jordan was never like that and is said to be the best ever.

yeah but the thing is , how many assists came with those points , anybody could score 81 if they took 95 percent of the shots , i was just at the kings lakers game right behind the lakers bench on thursday , he took 17 shots in the first 5 minutes alone , when he inbounded the ball right next to me i yelled hey that was kobes first pass all night ... .... by the way the kings won that game in OT , pretty sad when kobe has 51 points and they lose by 10 in ot ......... just proves the NBA isnt a one man sport ...... the kings had solid numbers all around ................. im not impressed with kobe , he will impress me when he get 81 with 10 assists now that ios something to be proud of , bnut i watched him all night and all he did was whine when he didnt get the ball

fluke? no. but I'm not surprised. kobe is a great player but very inconsistant. Also he is a huge ball hog and takes enough shots on any given night to score in the triple digits if he hit all his shots. he had a good night and thats it. how many assists did he have?

I think it will be a while before anybody reaches Wilt's record. Kobe Bryant is one of, if not the biggest ball hog to play the game. I might understand if he came out everynight and had 8 assists or so. Lebron James is one of the leading scorers in the NBA now, who averages 6.2 assists per game. Allen Iverson isn't too bad with assists either. I just think Kobe needs to be more generous with the ball.

I'm looking at the stats and he averages second most assists on the team behind Lamar Odem.

When you consider that he had a 60+ point game just a few weeks ago I don't think you can say it's a fluke. Bryant has always been a selfish player and now he is on a team that doesn't have another legit scoring threat. It may take overtime, but I think he has a realistic chance to break the record. Especially if you consider the fact that he scored 55 of his 81 points in the second half of the game.

Sorry, but I doubt Wilt's record will ever be broken, especially seeing as how he did it in a normal (4-quarter) game. Also brought into consideration must be the fact that back then the NBA still wasn't the multi-billion-dollar business today, and the teams couldn't attract the very best like they do today. In fact, I think there were only about 4,000 actually at the stadium in that game. I don't think we're ever going to see such a level of dominance again.

I agree that Wilt was the most dominating player of his day. Also the game was and is different, but the way Kobi is playing right now there is a chance. By saying teams couldn't attract the best players in a way make Wilt's hundred seem lesser of an achievement. Which it isn't. For it to take as long as it has for someone to even get close says it all.
What makes me say that Kobi can do it is the fact that he is the only legit scorer on his team, much as Wilt was. Also take into consideration that he really didn't just throw up shots, his shoting percentage was actully pretty good if I remember correctly.
Just my $.02

I am not tring to dimnish Wilt's achievement. It was, and still is, simply amazing. However, keep in mind that the two are very different players. Wilt was HUGE, especially for his day. He dominated the paint (except when Russell was around, but enough of that for now
) He had a very dependable hook that few opponents could block, whereas Kobe has a more difficult jump-shot that is not anywhere near unblockable.

The reason he ball hogs and takes shot after shot is b/c the rest of the Lakers throw up BRICKS consistantly..Shaq is gone so he has NO ONE else to carry the load....he passes the ball off and the other guys MISS their shots(reason for no assists)....so why pass it off...if he shots 40%-45% and the rest shoot 25% the odds are they will lose if he doesn't shoot the ball a lot....I turned the game off last night b/c I could bare watching them play soooooo poorly in the 1st half and the first 3 mins of the 3rd down by 18-20(when I turned it off to do something more productive)....then about 10:30 I read that he went off for 55 in the 2nd half w/ a total of 81 and my first thought was..."huh wonder if they won or lost in OT" pretty sad...I don't blame Kobe 1 bit for what happened w/ Shaq and the Lakers...that overweight lazy out of shape 1/2 season playin 7'1" center who demanded wayyyyyy too much money for a contract EXTENSION at the time he knew Kobe was a Free Agent and could walk w/o compensation to his team caused this in my eyes...The problem is w/ Kupcheck.....he DIDN'T get enough from Maimi in return for the big man...now Maimi is now b!tching about how they gave Shaq 5yr/$100 mil extension and how he is soo over weight and only scoring 12 pts a game....

I am by no means a Kobe fan. I agree he is far to cocky. But to complain he is a ball hog and takes to many shots is reminicent of what was said about a certain young Chicago player in the late eighties and early 90's. He was a ball hog, took all the shots, of course he scored that much. The ONLY difference is that guy wasn't cocky then....................oh and he has 6 rings and is regarded as the greatest ever now.

I have no idea what I'm talking about? What does it matter if he leads the league in scoring if they don't go anywhere. Allen Iverson has led the league in scoring that last few years and is now 2nd behind Kobe. Keep in mind Iverson is always one of the top five in assists in the league as well.
Have the Lakers gone anywhere? Nope! They make it to the playoffs and choke. Just like the sixers. Without Shaq, Kobe has yet to prove he is worth anything. He scored 81 points yes, lets see where they get in the playoffs then we'll discuss him being productive without Shaq. My opinion stands.

81 points in one game is pretty good i guess you could say..well it is but i think he needs to pass the ball more instead of taking all the shots he can get...
