Kole Tang / Nori nutrition

We recently brought home a Kole Tang and it absolutely ate all the algae in a day or 2. Tank looks great however we have started to give it some Nori which it loves as well as the yellow tang. Question, How long is the Nori good for under the saltwater? Days? Week? When should you put in a new piece for grazing?

My yellow and Kole also love nori. How much are you giving them? IMO add a piece that takes them about 2 to 3 minutes to finish

well only a small 3 or 4 inch strip. they seem to snack all day. just wondered if they should eat it like a meal (quick till gone) or all day snack?

I actually disagree with Joe.
If your tank has barren rocks and there's no algae for the tangs to graze on, leave that strip in there. Tangs are grazers and need to feed all day. With a proper clean up crew and a healthy appetite of two tangs, a 3-4" strip shouldn't cause any issues if it's decomposing in the tank.
I prefer to leave a strip on a clip and I also break apart strips by holding them in the water in front of a powerhead and rubbing them in between my fingers. This breaks apart the algae sheets and it looks as if you're feeding flake food. It will land around the rocks in your tank and give the tangs something to graze at without really causing algae blooms in the tank.

The problem with leaving strips in the tank is that they do not adhere to the rock work. You place a strip in your tank if the tangs no longer pick at it the nori gets mushy and starts to break apart either do to flow or the occasional pecking at it. These pieces that break apart float to the top and become part of the filtration pattern of your tank. IMO it just adds to the bio load
