Kole Tang...think he's dying

We recently added a Kole tang to our tank. He and a flame hawk were added at the same time. The flame hawk died within 24 hours and we thought the Kole was doing fine. Well, now he has started getting this brown stuff on his skin and we have found him lying at the bottom of the tank. Then, just as suddenly, he is up and moving around. We checked the water and all is ok. The alkalinity is a little high, but not so bad.
I, personally, think he is headed for fishy heaven, but my daughter would like him to live. Any ideas?
Thanks

Even though you think your water is "fine" we really need a complete water diagnosis, including tank size, whats in the tank, how old is the tank and filtration to give you a accurate diagnosis..

also, stick to one post please. the one in the disease forum has a lot of questions that need to be answered before you, and more importantly, your fish can get help.

Sorry about that. I saw this post first and posted. I didn't realize there was one for disease and treatment. I didn't mean to cause any confusion or do anything wrong. Again, sorry for that. I really do appreciate all the help we have received from the other post. So, disregard this one. We will stick to the one in the disease and treatment board.
Thanks
