Koralia 2's come tommorow

I have 2 maxi jet 1200's in my 46 gallon bow front, one blowing across the rock and one stirring the surface.
When my koralias get here, Im wondering what would be my best locations for placement.
Im thinking I will use the 1200's to stir the surface towards the skimmer overflow box and use the koralias to kick things up below.
Any better suggestions?

how are the koralias?
i put the stonger koralia either a 3 or 4 (thats in my 72) aim right at the wall next to it and it keeps that side of the tank pretty good stirred up and then i have another koralia i think a 2 in the back of my tank aimed straight for the glass when they hit the glass it spreads the water out even more, unless you really want how much flow it gives off

Im disapointed. I put the koralias in the tank. Back corner, near the top pointing at the rocks.
I put one right beside a maxijet 1200 that is pointed up to stir the surface. Putting your hand in front of both pumps, it feels like 4 times the flow coming off the maxi jets as is coming off the koralia.
I bought these to move more water around the rocks, and you can barely feel the flow 6 inches away.
It cant be a bad pump cause they both feel the same.

Burnt again? Well, its possible that since this powerhead throws a wider flow, that the 600 gph advertised is there just wider and less direct. Time will tell

I wouldn't get to bummed about your Koralia 2's. The Koralia series is unique in that it does not push water in a "jet" like motion, i.e., one concentrated stream. Yes you will feel the push from a Max-Jet farther away, but it is pushing all in one place. The Koralia series of heads typically move more water than a power head of similar size, with the huge exception that they distribute the water flow evenly in all directions. I have one Koralia 1 and two power-sweep heads in my 70 gal. I just ordered 2 more Koralia 1's to replace the sweepers for 2 reasons. First the Koralia's take up less room and are far more appealing to the eye, if you have to look at a powerhead in a reef tank, and 2, they put out more flow than the sweepers do. 3 x Koralia 1's = 1200 gph plus about 350gph from my canister filter return moves roughly 1500gph, give or take, through 70 gallons. Thats about 21x turnover per hour. Just 2x Koralia 2's in 46 gal is about 26x turnover. Even if you place the heads in oppostie corners, there should be enough flow to produce enough chaos in the current for you to have a great reef atmosphere.
However, I am no expert on flow. Just personal experience and opinion. I'm sure that there are those who would argue with me, just like any other piece of equipment can spark a dispute. Hope it works out for you, good luck!

2 koralia 2's and 2 maxi jet 1200's not counting fuge or skimmer, 600+600+295+295=1790/46=39 turnover
If I add the fuge and skimmer Im looking at 51.7
Another thing to consider is the fact that in a 46 with sand and rock the actual water total is only 36 gallons, since you cant turnover rock, so to speak, it would be even higher, 66.11
I think when people calculate turn over they should use actual water volume, not tank size. Rock and sand displace alot of water

i also like koralias becuase they spread the water stream out more than just one spot so its not like blasting any corals or fish

Love my Korialia's too. I have six Korialia 4's in my 265 and they do a great job keeping the water moving. I did however have one Koriala 2 start leaking stray voltage into the water which I'm convinced caused my orange shoulder tang to jump out of the tank. A hard lesson learned. Always use a ground probe.

Agree with this! the flowis wider and less vigorous with the Koralias, which is good when you are trying to share the flow and not blast any particular coral. I have 2 #2's and 2 nanos in my 55.
