Koralia pumps not working

I have a red sea max and have been using a koralia circulation pump for extra circulation but in the last year ended up having to replace them twice because the propeller suddenly stopped functioning. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the koralia pumps. I assume its the quality of the pump. Any recommendations on a better circulation pump before I replace the one i have that just stopped working?

I have 4 Koralias and they work fantastic. Just like any mechanical pump though you do need to put it in a cleaner every 3 months or so to get the buildup off of it.
I run mine for a day or so in vinegar.

does it feel hot on the casing where the motor is? have you tried manually starting the prop by sticking something in the front and moving the propellers? I do it with my finger, but I'm not saying I advise that.

the casing isnt hot. Ive tried manual starts but gets going for one or two spins then stops. i cleaned inside where propeller sits and still nothing. wondering if its demagnetized.

Stupid question here but did you take the powerhead apart and clean it?
I use a Q-tip and warm water and clean where the propeller goes, some times I pull alot of junk out of there.
Good luck

Hey there,
Just a heads up, you could have issues with a new pump if you don't have a regular cleaning schedule. The Koralias COULD still be working if there was preventive maintenance done. That being said. I have had 7 or 8 koralias and I have had a couple seize up, even though they get a regular cleaning. And I have one that needs a good flick to the propeller every time it gets turned on.

Easy fix , If flicking the Impeller doesnt work and impeller is shaking in a stationary position or spinning backwards, the Koralia motor housing is most likely fine. Somtimes after a year or two of operation , the Koralia's powerhead impeller magnet swells and somtimes it will crack causing the impeller to stick or rotate in reverse . No problem, don't panic. You can order a new shaft magnet from the factory, free of charge, at koralia support.com and click on "replacement parts". Koralia recommends you change out the shaft magnet every two years. This should fix the problem. dont throw out the Koralia. Inspect the impeller magnet. Koralia has great customer service and aim to please! Hope it works for ya .

Keep those corals growin!!
