Korilla PH

I think the Seio wavemaker is the only one that can be used because it is the only one that doesnt fully turn off the PHs. It revs them down to like 30% power so they never actually turn off.
Otherwise they are noisy at startup.

I was afraid of that answer. Is it just at the start? My maxi jets were noisy as well, but I just dealt with it. Figured it was better for the corals.

I believe so. I know some people use wavemakers with Korlia anyway. The Red Sea wavemaker is a popular one. Maybe one with "softstart" helps?

the problem is propeller based power heads (korlias, seios, modded mj) will reverse rotate when started. both korlia and seio make wake makers specially designed for their propeller pumps. they never actually shut the pump off, just dim the voltage and then ramp it backup... this way the propeller never actually stops spinning in the correct direction. you can not use propeller based power heads on normal wave makers.

Koralias can be modded to be used on a standard wavemaker using a piece of airline tubing on the propeller shaft between the propeller and the guard. I have a K3 and K4 cycling every hour since June with no issues and they don't clatter when they start. You have to experiment with the length of tubing if it is too long the powerheads can start in reverse and if it is too short they will still clatter.

can you post pictures of your setup? i know this is a big issue for many people and a DIY mod for it would be a huge help and of course much appreciated.

I will see what I can do, my powerheads are due for a cleaning anyway but probably not until Thanksgiving weekend though.
