Land-Loving Trigger

Well I finally found my Niger trigger after a day and a half long hunt. I searched the entire tank and every peice of coral and there was still no sign of him. So I peeked behind the tank and sure enough there was my poor little fishy all dryed out :( He was my favorite fish too! Well now I'm tryin to figure out how it happened so here's the story. The only opening in the tank that he could of came out of is about 4 inches long, barely half an inch wide, and the clearance from the top of the tank is almost 3/4 of an inch. Next off, the NIger was the king of the tank and I find it hard to belive that my dime sized damsels, coral beauty, or juv-v blue tang are the culprits. He was doing fine up until now and I can't imagine how he got himself through such a small crevice. Last I checked, fish don't jump out for the heck of it and I know he wasn't chased out either. So does anyone have any opinions on the case and I'd like to also warn everyone if you keep triggers, or any fish for that matter, make sure that the top of the tank is completely sealed so you don't find you little fishy carpet surfin. Thanx for your time! :(

is your cover on tight or is it a light cover i know a while back i use to have an oscar in a freshwater tank and i guess when he jumped he had enough force to knock the cover up some and he landed on the floor but i cought him and time and threw him back in

Just a thought here, but from what I have heard damsels are known to peck at any other fish. My damsel was going after my clown and he's like 6 times the size of the damsel.
just my .02
