LawnMower Bleemie

Does any one else have problem'w with keeping a lawnmower Blemmie? I am on my 3 one, and going to give up on having them. The first one died after the tank got a case of ick. Everyone recovered great. He just never seemed the same after that. He looked ruff for about a week then died. That was probally 2 months after the ick problem. I bought a new one, it was doinng wonderful, then somehow jumped into my overflow and spent a day inn there. He was not in good shape. I thought I would try it again. Bought this one, had him for about 4 months now. He was eating off the lr, the glass, excepting frozen brime. He seemed wonderful. He would be out swimming and doing his own thing. This last sunday I did not see him. I hunted him down and he looked ok. Monday when I got home I could not find it. Did not see it this morning either. Do they go threw a time where they hide or something? All the other fish are great, no problems or deaths. All my readings are perfect. I had my water tested on saturday at lfs. Have not added any new fish in at least 3 months. I did add a sally light foot crab and emerald crab on saturday. They are doing good. I have 125G with 150-160 lbs of lr. ls also. Any info or suggestions would greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone.
Shel :(
I have a manderine and it is doing great. I thought the manderine would more difficult to keep then the lawnmower! Hmmmmm.
No agressive fish in the tank either.

Hey Shel, I was curious as to where you got your mandarin and lawnmower. I haven't had any luck with either one. Couldn't get either one to eat. The lawnmower lasted a few weeks, the mandarin a few months. I got each one at different shops in the Phoenix area. Thanks,
:D

How exciting, someone else is Arizona. Can you beleive I do not know anyone with a salt tank. The only people I know with them work at lfs.
Anyways back to your question. The lawnmower blemmie is from AuqaTouch on 32nd and Cactus. Very nice store, a little pricey. Most of the people there are wonderful, very helpful.
The manderine I bought at Tropical Treasure's. I think it is 27th and Bell. Behind Hooters, next to Albertsons. The fish's are cheaper. I have not had any problems with either store. Just the lawnmower problem.
What Lfs to go to? I will always go to AuqaTouch but it is a long drive. That is where I get water tested. I would like to find one a little closer. I live in Surprise. What area are you in?

Not too terribly far from you, actually. I prefer to go to AquaTouch and buy almost all of my livestock there. They are so far away. I just recently bought some livestock online, but I think I prefer AT. Occassionally I'll go to Ocean Floor, but only for emergency supplies. Its relatively close to where I work. I've purchased a few things from Fin & Friends. Small store, good livestock, but a little pricey. Not as knowledgable as AT. I've not heard of Tropical Treasure. I'll have to check them out. Thanks. :D

Shel,
if your water readings are very good, how much algae do you have in your tank? How big is your cleaning crew? Is there enough food for all of them even in 125gal? Remember, it's a lawnmower guy - the name means a lot.
I started with one Salaris year ago (~2")
and now it's about 5" - it is really big and fat.
You are in Arizona - put some big shell or stone into a jar of salt water, place it in the sun - and when is cover with green staff - place it back in your tank. Salaris and Tangs will love you.

 Hey question about the jar and green stuff thing. So, you just put a stone into a jar with saltwater and leave out in the sun? Do you close the lid of the Jar??

Gobiodon, I have hair algae well. It is driving me up the wall. The tangs are not touching it. The LM was doing well eating it, there still was plenty on the LR. He stopped eating then disappeared 2 days later. I have not seen it since Sunday night. I even did a water change last nite. Could not find it. I have a Sally Light foot crab, an Emerald crab, probally around 12 snails, 10-15 hermit crabs. I really do not think their is not enough for it to eat. Is their any other fish that the main diet is algae? (Hair algae??) I really need something to help.
on a diffrent note I am going to replace my bulb's in the next month. (Have to get $$$) (Metal Halide's....Ouch!!) It is time, I think that is a big part of my problem.
But I will still need something to help maintain it. Something that will get along with corals. That is my next step after I replace bulbs and conqure the hair algae.
Thank you for the info...

So sorry to hear about your lawnmower, Shel. Its a sad thing :( I just love lawnmowers and mandarins, but I just haven't had any luck with either. As far as fish go, I think I'll just stick with the ones I have. I have much better luck with corals and inverts. Keep me posted on your mandarin. Good luck,

Moy,
add a little green staff from your tank - if you have - it will speed up. Don't add anything from outside your tank that you would regret later on...
That's it, usually works. Cover doesn't matter, but many bugs will not resist a temptation to swimm...
I always refill the jar with aquarium water when water-change comes or as needed.

Sorry, Shel, about your little buddy, that was just a thought.
But there is a big hope, on-line of course, to do something with the bloom of hair algea.
I don't want anybody to shout at me for commercializing this board, here is my
e-mail: latarnik@usa.net.
It has to do something with the research on Mexican Dwarf Hermit Crabs (Clibanarius digneti) from lower Golf of Mexico.

My lawnmower blennie is my favorite fish. The only I time I seem him is when the pump goes off for feeding time. He is also my most hardy fish. One day while trying to catch my angel for ich I took a peice of lr out and I did not know the blennie was in it. After about 5 minutes I put the lr back in and notice " ugly" the blennie was on the floor put him back in and he was fine.

I would be very greatful if he was still alive. I used to see him several times day. I have not seen it in 5 days.
If I find him, I will let everyone know.
I ahve looked for him with the lights on and off. Also when I was doing a water change 2 days ago I had the pumps off and looked for him with a flash light. Did not see him at all. :(
Thank you everyone for everyones help.
