Are there any fish comparable to the lawnmower blenny in terms of diet, behavior, and being reef safe? I am looking for one to put in my 29 gallon. I like the lawnmower, but its looks are not that great IMO.
They may not be the brightest. Ok, they aren't colorful at all, but their personality more than makes up for it. And that face! Who couldn't love that face! As for another fish, how do you want it to be the same as a LMB? Eat algae? Same body shape? If you could narrow your question, it'd be easier to pick out a good fish to fit the bill.
I was originally not going to go with the lawnmower because of its looks, but I like its behavior and its diet (hair algae). There are small amounts of hair algae on my rock.
So, I just ordered a U-Build it from this site and included one of these little fellas in my order. This will be my third and final fish in my 29 gallon. I am sure I will grow to love the ugly little fella.
Entice, mine is the same way. He used to eat hair algae like it was going out of style, but now he won't even look at. All he eats now is diatom. Amazingly, he's still very well fed, and constantly has this cute little fat belly. He's a total nut, but I do wish he'd eat the hair again. My emeralds stopped eating hair as well. I'm getting quite the outbreak. I'm really hoping my refugium takes off soon so the caulerpa will take up all those nutrients.
