LawnMower Blenny

Do Lawnmower Blennies have a high death rate? My blenny passed away yesterday. He was very thin. There was plenty of food (algae) for him to eat. I've heard they tend to slowly wither away. Is this true? :notsure:

I think they primarily eat hair algae...you may not have had this sort of algae? It helps to supplement with algae sheets as well.

Did you feed it anything. If theres not ample food source from lots of live rock and fuge and you dont feed it then they will starve. I have mine nearly 5 years so they can survive if in a proper system and fed right.
I have 200 lbs of rock and MH lights that grow algae and a fuge to add natural bio foods. Theres also several tangs and drawf angels that compete for the same foods. Hair algae grows from haveing too much bad stuff in the system and most LMB dont eat it anyway. Mine also eats meaty foods and algae sheets/nori.

had mine for nearly a year. dont have any hair algae. Between the snails and hermits the I only really grow significant algae on the rear glass that last more than a day. Mine eats crushed pellets without problem and picks at the algae on the glass. I once in a blue moon throw in a seeweed sheet.

I would throw in seaweed sheets, algae waffers, brine shrimp and pellets but I never saw him it any of it. I always saw him picking on the rocks and the glass. He seem pretty plump and happy but three weeks ago I started noticing he was getting thin. I had him for about seven months. He died possibly yesterday
. I have approximately 100lbs of live rock. I do a 10% percent water change every week. I run three 65w power compacts. I don't want to go buy another lawnmower blenny if it's going to die from starvation. I just don't think it's right if you take a fish out of it's environment and can't properly meet it's needs. I thought I was doing everything right. I feel so bad for the guy.
