I bought a fire shrimp a week ago and about an hour after i put him in my tank he moved to the corner by a power head and hasnt moved since.
Is this normal?? I meen how boring to buy a shrimp that stays in the same spot day after day after day.

I had two peppermint shrimp who went into hiding. One has been missing and presumed dead since day two. The other one hid out constantly. I only had it about 3 weeks, and it that time I NEVER saw it out. If you looked between some rocks, you could see him swaying around, hanging upside down. Two or three days ago I came home and was excited to actually see him out of the rocks and in full view at back of my tank..........until I noticed the blue-legged hermit appeared to be eating on him! <img src="graemlins//yell.gif" border="0" alt="[yell]" /> Anyway, that's my experience with shrimp so far. At least this will bump you back up and maybe someone else will have some information that is actually more helpful! :D Hope he decides to come out and play because you're right....how boring!

Thats how it goes some times. You might get a scardy cat and I end up with a attention seeking bully. I have a cbs who never hides and cause little problems, but every now then that little guy will start a big mess. Give it some more time and hopefully things will turn around.

My peppermint usually stays hidden until feeding time. Then he's out mixin' it up with the big boys. He always gets his share. My cleaner on the other hand is almost always out directing traffic. Sits on the highest spot in the middle of the tank; can you say "King of the World" :p Give it time, maybe yours will come out more often. Good Luck!

My cleaner shrimp is a cut-up. Simon da Shrimp. He dances on my arms etc. My three pepperment shrimp (Lady, Champ & Christopher) are semi-social and curious, but do tend to stay behind or under the rocks unless it it feeding time or after the lights go out. They are all over the tank after the demon damsels go to bed.

OK here's some ideas, is it possible your fire shrimp molted right after you got it. If so it will hang and hide for a few days, mine just molted 4 or 5 days ago and is just now coming back out. Do you have any other shrimp, like cleaners? My fireshrimp hangs around with my 2 cleaners a lot and he cleans my yellow tang too. If it's the only one in the tank then it might stay shy. I have only one peppermint shrimp and I haven't seen him in weeks...at least I think I still have one peppermint shrimp. Anyway, I love my fire shrimp it is so beautiful and cool and my cleaners and the fire climb on my hands if I have them in the tank. :)
