Leaping Clownfish

My clownfish went kamikaze last night and jumped out of my tank. There is only about a half inch area he could have gotten out of but he managed to do it. What do you all use to cover your aquariums so the fish can't jump out?

absolutely nothing...
and for a clown to jump there's something odd going on in your tank.
some people will say to use eggcrate, but i had a jawfish jump through it so i can't see anything stopping fish from jumping if they feel the need to get away from something so bad in your tank.

Can you buy this at the hardware store in small quantities? I'd like to try this. What section should I look in at the HS to find it?

I ran into this a few years ago... Lowe's does not sell egg crate material that you are looking for but Home Depot does. I believe it's in the lighting section.

Lowe's does sell it... I picked up a big piece a few weeks ago. It's actually called a lighting diffuser.
I have never had a clown fish jump out of the tank, nor have i ever heard of it. Jumping to conclusions says that there may be something wrong with the tank.

this is false...i bought mine from lowes...it is in the commercial lighting section

it is designed to let light pass through it. and yes, you should be able to get it at any larger hardware store, building supply, or even the big box stores. its a 4x2?' sheet of plastic that looks like

One of my clowns jumped once. He was either chased by the female or my daugher may have pounded the glass. I was lucky b/c my daughter came and got me and I was able to return him to the tank and he's still alive today. It's very uncommon for clowns to jump.

Someone on another site used a sort of net for surrounding trampolines as a cover. It is a finer mesh than the eggcrate and I believe it also came from Lowes or HD.

i've tried supergluing the fibreglass screen material to eggcrate, but it really lowered the light for the tank.
