Leather coral resurrection

For the benefit of our newer reef keepers I will post a picture documentary on the waxing and rebirth of my leather coral. This is very large and rust red color leather. It as all leather corals go through a period where they wax over and seem to shrink and change color. After a while like magic they start to sprout their polyps and bloom into their full glory I will continue to post this transformation this pic is about 3 days after a total wax over

That is a very interesting question. The waxing is in fact not a regenerative action but more to rid the surface of accumulated algae and waste. So if you have good flow over your leather you should see the waxing happen less frequent. In my opinion it’s a personal choice as to whether to increase the water movement over leather when it waxes. I feel that I have established a water movement pattern that my tank inhabitants are used to and I do not want to change that pattern for one coral as any change will affect all of my tank

This is interesting info Joe, I have had a toadstool leather for over a year now, at first I had a lot of problems with it, now I have some good flow around it and it is doing great, it is almost as big as a dinner plate. The tips come out really well, one of my favorite early purchases. I was going to frag it but my 10-year old was totally against me cutting it up. I am glad I listened to him.

Huge difference, man Joe you have some beautiful colors in that tank of yours. Two hippo tangs I see, are they buddies. I bet if you can get a little more flow on that leather it will open up quickly again.

Is the Jewel damselfish aggressive?
Actually I got the damsel as a juvenile. He was the last fish introduced into my tank. I have had him for over a year as of late he takes a run at the cardinal now and then but leaves the clown and blenny alone. I am sure he knows the tangs will kick his ass if he tries anything with them

If I recall correctly, wasn't there an identity issue when you first received this fish?
