I tryed to moved it but it was to late, its stuck.
If it dies is it lethal to tank?
How can i get it off rock?
At the base there are some mushrooms i would like to save can i remove them
This is what it looks like and what it used to look like

leathers are pretty hard to kill... check all of your parameters and make sure that everything is within acceptable ranges. Make sure that you are not having huge pH and temperature swings.
Leather corals are deep water corals, which means that they prefer cold water. Make sure that your water isn't going above 80 degrees F.
Leave your leather alone. Usually if your leather doesn't shrink up to nothing and start decaying, it may pull through, given the right conditions.

I checked all the readings and every thing is good that i checked for. the only thing that is low is my calcium. i haven't been able to test it for a while because there were no testers in town and mine was out. I Checked it yesterday and it read 340. thats low it used to be 420-440 when the picture was taken before so i will try to raise that and see how it goes. I need a calcium reactor but its Christmas and tax time, and skiing season if you know what i mean.

I agree....leave it alone. I have a leather that does that often without being moved. it'll come around if the conditions are right.

The only time you remove it is when you see parts of it's flesh is falling apart and turning white in color. You can easily remove it when it's in that stage, it's pretty much dead by that time.....Otherwise, leave it alone, they will do that somtime like it was mentioned earlier.....

Mine goes through stages where it will be fine for months then it will curl up and look like it is dying only to come back a month later and be bigger than it ever was.

I think i jinxed it the other day by starting this thread. Just today i came home and noticed that it is shedding some skin and showing signs that it is coming out. It has been well over 1 month since it had been active. thanks for your help. I m glad it didn't die it is a neat leather because of its size. I will post a pic when it comes back out

I'm glad that it worked out. Sometimes leathers will just close up, regardless of how good your water quality is.
On a side note... sometimes i fyou have toadstool leathers or cup leathers, you can take a soft bristled toothbrush and lightly rub the "mantle" this will help the leather start shedding their waxy coat.
If you have one that is shedding, they need a little extra help sometimes. You can place a powerhead pretty close to them and the extra flow will help them out, just incase you don't like the idea of a toothbrush.

Yesterday i did just that by manually removing some of the skin that was partially off. The lights just came on about 30 mins ago and it already looks better.
