ok, so it has finally happend, my leather coral has gotten so large that it has caused the piece of live rock that it is on to tip over. The large leather on the left in the picture has fallen over on top of the clam. I need to frag this thing and im unsure as to where to cut it in order to not kill it. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

ok, so i read that post and watched the video in horror..... but ok, so I will need to cut it outside of my tank, im thinking i have a 5 gallon bucket for mixing water, how long should i leave it out of the tank after I make my cuts? also, I am looking to cut it into about 5 pieces, do i cut the head off then cut into pieces or do i need to leave a portion of the head intact so that it stall has some polyps to extend?

No dont cut the whole head off. Just cut smaller pieces from the edges. When you attach the smaller pieces to a piece of live rock the stalk will eventually grow and presto you have yourself a nice little frag. Don't worry if your leather closes up and doesn't look very happy. It will be like that for a few days before it opens up again. If you can cut outside easily then do that. I couldn't get mine out of my tank cuz its attached to about 4 different support rocks, so i sliced mine inside the tank. I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you have no other option.

since u dont hv that many corals, u could do it inside ur tank. but u must run carbon afterward.

Ok, So it was done this morning, I fragged the leather into 8 pieces. I left the original large, and pulled 7 smaller pieces from it. It is Ticked Off! So here is a picture of the aftermath.. Hope all goes well.

Here is a close up of the patient...

looks like nice clean cuts should be fine. give it a few days before seeing any sign of life it may stay closed like that for a while then slowly repair and open up. it may open up in stages so dont get worried about that
