My leather since the light has been off for about a hour has two long like fishing line things coming out of it. They are about ten inches long with equally spaced about a 1/16" apart 1 inch pieces on it.

Kind of what it looks like.
Well just found my tang dead. He was fine earlier. I wore some gloves and pulled what ever they were off the leather. They were more then half way across my my tank.
The things are back but now they are about a inch long since I tore out the 10 inches before. Can anyone tell me what they are.
As far as I know leathers dont have sweepers because they dont sting. They use chemical warfare instead, they are one of the most toxic softies. The long strings seem to be slime, mine does it. I would say the death of your tang has nothing to do with the leather.
I think my coral banded shrimp got my tang while he was sleeping. Little bast#%$! But he eats the worms in my tank. Since I got him the worm count has gone done.
the things are back they only seem to come out when the lights are off. Are they some type of worm because I got stung by one, it was a small burning sensation. Could these mess up my clams?

I tried to take a pic but it comes out to fuzzy it just looks like a thin fishing line with pieces that come off equally spaced and look like half of a feather. When you touch them they pull back in real quick and it gets kind of bunched up as it goes back into the leather. I pulled some more out tonight but it is time to go to bed I have to work tomorrow for the first time in three monthes. I have been out with a back injury.
