Typically one per every 10-20 square inches or tank surface area. Color combination is personal preference. Most people go with a 50/50 split of white and blue, but a lot are starting to venture away from that.

hmmm, most do 3 Royal blue cree's to 1 Xp-G R5 cool white.
everything Ive seen is a 50/50 with a couple throwing in a red in there somehwhere for more color pop on certain colors
I've seen the UV LEDs from exoctico (sp) and they didn't use a lot over the setup, but they made the colors explode!!!!!! I wish I would have been thinking that day to take a video of the tank with and without the UV LEDs......
I know this is an LED thread and all that but has anyone every put a flourescent u.v. (black light) lamp over there tank and seen what it does with corals that flouresce?
I'm following you brother!!!!! The colors are intense!!!!

I tried this, I have two nice big black lights, and either they didn't penetrate the water even 12" to actually get to my corals or the corals didn't take to the black light, but it was almost as though I hadn't put any light on the tank at all.
I was seriously dissapointed.
