Need help quickly, leopard shark was just stung by lion fish, he has a visible hole in his side from the sting. Gill area turning white, rapid breathing, spastic movement. I have been trying to help the shark breath by holding it in front of power head. Need help/ advice/ treatment quickly.

Jim27: Just wanted to say thank you. :)
If anyone has any ideas AT ALL, please let me know. The shark is now convulsing. If I knew I could give him a pain pill I would.:(

Splash: I have read info that goes both ways. Some say yes, others no way. Unfortunately I tried it. I wanted some kind of fish with the sharks, and went for a big lion. They did quite well together actually. I saw the lion snap at the sharks a few times when they got to close, but never thought this would happen.
I didn't give many details last night, but here's what happened. The lion did not purposely sting the shark. It was my fault. I was cleaning the overflows, and moving things around in the tank. I was also doing this at feeding time, and the sharks knew it. I left the room, and asked a friend to watch them while I cleaned the filters. I dint want the sharks to jump out while the top was open. My friend came running in saying one of the sharks was upside down. He said he saw the shark swim right into the lion, and then bolt away, running into the wall so hard he could hear it.
I stayed up most of the night with the shark. When he had trouble breathing, I tried to help. I had no idea if I was making things worse or not. But the bottom line is, the shark is alive!! :D His breathing has returned to normal, gills are no longer white, and he's acting normal. The lion is here at work with me, getting ready to be traded at the lfs for shark food.:)
What Im concerned with now, is infection, and internal damage. Hopefully he'll make it through. Anyone have any suggestions for treatment? Antibiotics maybe?

The leopard is doing great, thanks for asking.:) He's been eating well, and the swelling is a thing of the past. Actually, the wound seems to be healing quite nicely.
I got rid of the lion, don't miss him at all. I noticed a similar wound on my smooth hound. The lion obviously didn't get him as bad, but in the future I'll strongly recommend not mixing these fish to others. The sharks WILL eventually run into them.

We all learn from our mistakes... At least now I will have another person agreeing with me on this forum! LOL! Have you noticed any behavior differences between the leopard and the smoothound (before all this happened) I am thinking of getting a smoothound... That or a bamboo....

Over all their behavior seems very similar to me. The smooth hound is a bit more active than the leopard most of the time. He almost never stops swimming. Also the smooth hound is a more finicky eater, unlike the leopard who will eat anything.
I have a bamboo as well. I wouldn't trade her for the world. But the smooth hound is an awesome shark. Really has that classic shark look and attitude.
