NEVER EVER EVER put a MH light on top of glass. I got a new MH light and wanted to try it out, so I got a large piece of glass that is a little less than half an inch thick(the glass is tempered) and put it over my 8 gallon biocube, then I put the MH light on top of the glass and I turned it on. An hour later the glass shattered. A few pieces of glass fell in the tank which isn't bad. But THANK GOD the MH light didn't fall into the tank! The funny thing is that there is a very large piece of glass that is exactly shaped of the eastern US. Here is half of the glass.

Wow, with that much heat did you check the temp of the tank?
close one, thanks for the heads up. I am ordering M/H in the next day or two and I can see me trying to hurry up and see what they look like.
Know I now better, I will start putting the brackets up on the wall now.
