Hey reefkprZ, I have a question I also have 75 gallon with no sand bed, but with 70 pound of live rock and I'm trying to to convert to reef tank. I have 48" PC light with two to three soft coral: Pom Pom, Xenia, and mushroom. My question is what type of light are you using. I want to know how can I keep the additivies stable like the cal. My cal. goes up and down. Everytime I do water change either goes up or down. Also how can I remove some of the debri that build up under the LR. I'm also have problem with that too. Any suggetion on how I can get start a good and stable simple reef tank. I've been posting this question on the reef forum section, but seem to me there only two people that response.
Thanx
Jay

. pallan: if you dont mind me asking, how were your phosphates before you added the phosban reactor? and is your coral growth better now with it?

I dont really use additaves I do lots of water changes, I use reefcrystals salt mix, but I keep calcium and buffer on hand just in case.
Right now I have PC 500watts, I am ordering a metal halide light retrofit kit and I'm going to build my own canopy with all my PC lights in it with the MH light so I'll end up with 750watts on my 75.
A good way to keep the stuff from building up under your LR is to directpowerheads towards the base (since you have no sand it wont create a dust storm) or use one powerhead and build a PVC pipe spray bar to go behind your rock work and blow forward to keep stuff from settleing until your filtration can grab it. (thats also how I would get the stuff out thats there just blow it out with a powerhead or a turkey baster if you dont have a spare PWH)
Hope this helps.

Hey thanx for you help. I will try to build a spray bar. Now since you suggest that to build a spray bar how do you build one I never done this before and still new trying to learned more about. About the turkey baster what is that looks like can you show me a picture.
Are you using a cal. reactor. If not since you do a lot of water change and I only do water change every weekend like Saturday or Sunday what way can I keep my cal. and other mineral stable mainly the Cal. and Iodine. Every time I do water change I drop the liquid Cal. to raise it up and the Iodine, but after three day the cal. seem to me that it goes down. Also every time I do water change my cal. goes up and down cannot keep it stable. I used the KentMarine salt.
Thanx

Phosphates have not really been bad. i just seen some cyno in the fuge so i added it. been a while since i tested phosphates so hard to say if its helped or not. manly i just use it as a place to run carbon in and i add some phosphate media every now and then for good measure.

Here are some crappy pics of my 75, this tank gets converted to either a species tank or a dedicated zoa tank in about 2-3 weeks.

Hey maxalmon what kind of light are you using for you 75 gallon tank. I found a light is USA Current Orbit is a 2x150 MH with 9 LED and 9 moon light and is a T5. The total watt is 529w. Is that going to be too much for the 75 gallon tank for simple soft coral and few easy hard coral. I just want to know if it going to be too much because other people said that is too much and I only need 300w for soft coral and also other said it's going to be a fine. I'm confuse
. Also how many pound of LR do you have.

Jay, I'm a little confused. Which lights do you have? T5 or MH? For a softies tank 300w would be fine. I always say, over kill on the lights, just a little as you can always keep stuff on the bottom of the tank, but it gets annoying when everything is so close to the top due to lack of lighting. The other problem with mixing softies and stony corals is water flow issues, a lot of the LPS can be mixed with softies, just not with leathers. SPS would need to much flow for the softies to handle (there are exceptions)
My 75 has 2x250mh and 2x96 actinic, pretty much a holding tank for my sps till the larger tank arrives.

Well, I found a light is Current USA Outer Orbit HQI Metal Halide Light Fixture with T5 combo light like four T5 bulb from top and bottom and in the middle are the two 2x150 with 10k bulb and also in the middle has 9 LED and 9 moon. How much flow do you have on your 75g tank and what kind of powehead are you using because I'm having problem with building up debri under my live rock and also behind I think I'm not getting enough flow on the back suggestion on how to re-arrange the my live rock so that I don't get build up debri on under and back of my live rock. I been wanted to re-aquascape my LR, but the problem is how.
Thanx

reefreakgeek, amazing loking tank, great job

Flow in a tank is tricky business, sandstorms are a problem and trying to keep detritus from under LR and the back of the tank is somewhat of a trial and error. LR placement is key, I usually try and have several large LR chunks and then stack LR on top of these base rocks. I also use several maxijet 900's that are kidden behink my LR, they are ususally aimed down or at a 45degree angle across the back wall of the tank. It can take a while to figure out correct placement, adjust the PH and watch what happens for a few days and then re-adjust etc...
