Let's do a count on Sun coral owners

I'd like to know how many people out there actually own at least 1 Sun coral.
If you have one or more, please post pics of them here and as many stories behind it as possible.
I, myself, knew the trouble, but.....
because I didn't have one in my tank,
and because It looked like a good deal.
So, here's mine, still looking pretty sad, still trying to train it to open up during MHs time.

your sun coral is probably trying to get away from your MH's. they prefer less lighting. I wouldn't try to get it to open during that time.

so do you just add cyclopeze right to the water or do you have to get it right up next to the coral? ive never used cyclopeze so i dono what you do with it. also, what is cyclopeze

Cyclopeze is tiny little red bugs that will make your corals go insane for more.
Your corals will be scratching at their necks, waiting for the next hit in no time

I had three in my reef tank. Two orange and one black. Hungry little critters. I fed them enriched brine shrimp just about every day. Was thinking of putting some in my horse tank. :cheer:

I dont spot feed anything. But I feed rediculous amounts for how small my tank is. Its so packed that I probably feed more than most people with tanks triple its size.
daily regiment shifts from time to time adding something to the routine and somtimes taking something out, but Cyclops is ALWAYS part of the program.

I also had a 30+ polyp sun coral in my tank. I decided to trade it for something I didn't have to target feed.
When I did feed them.....
I took a turkey baster and blasted food around them to get them to open up (my fish ate all of this food) once opened up I then fed them with the turkey baster. They closed up on it and were super happy.

ok, thing is, my Sun coral don't even come out during the bright hrs.
If I keep blowing food at the heads, fishes will eat them all and Sun coral gets none. I don't want to blow too much food on them for nothing and will mess my water up.
They come out at night, slightly, not fully. And I can't feed them when the light is off cuz fishes cant eat the excess food and that will mess up the water more. I take it out of the tank and in the cup to feed it, but I think that is so wrong.

first week and half of my suncoral i put it in a tupperware bowl to let it sit in there with cyclo for about 45min..after that now they open fully everytime I put food in the tank. I spray them with food about 3times a week and once a month i take them out and give them a real heavy feeding in a bowl.

Runner you wouldnt be willling to sell/trade any of those sun coral frags would you?
I want one, but I want to start with a small one and Ive only found larger colonies at the LFSs. Just curious.Yours looks nice and healthy... and I already have to 'turkey baste' feed my mandarin so it would be part of the routine. If not thats cool too

I spot feed mine w/ cyclopeeze 2x a week by using a syringe and blasting it onto the polyps. The sun coral is almost completely shaded by a toadstool leather and other rocks. I usually feed around 9/10pm and turn the lights off right after (i know bad, but otherwise I cannot see what i'm doing in the tank, its nowhere near a lamp or anything)

And what happened with those food that wasn't being eaten up by ur Sun coral?
did you just let them float around the tank?
I am very meticulous about how much food going in the tank and I never overfed my tank cuz I have 30+ other types of corals in there.
There is no room for mistake.
