I just started up my first reef tank. The tank has been set up for about 6 months and the first corals went in three weeks ago. First was a single mushroom. She's grown nice and big since then and I'm ready to try something new. I've only got one.
I was going to cut it at the base then quarter the head, through the mouth with a razor blade. Then I'll put it in a tupperware container w/ rubble and cover it with some netting and set it on the bottom. Sound good? It's my first try.
I think it's ready because it's been growing and looks so healthy.

I've got a beautiful blue shroom I'm wanting to do...but I'm skeered.

i have cut my red shrooms in half 3 times now, and they are ok. i just cut a purple one in half yesterday, we'll see how it does

So, you cut the head off thru the stalk-then cut the head in half thru the mouth? Then put the two 1/2 heads in a container with some gravel in the tank? Then the base grows a new head?
Maybe I'll try tonite.

actually, i just pried the reds off and cut the top and base right in half. the purple i couldn't get off, so i just cut it in half on the rock LOL.

Let me secure a camera and everything before I give it a go. Probably in about a week when I get the time.
