I have been pulling in some extra hours at the pet store I work at. With spring break in full swing they needed the help, and a little extra money is always a good thing 
. Today I had the most salt water ignorant person come in just about time we’re closing and was looking for something she called a quick cure for a cloudy eye on a black and white heniochus. I asked her if it was pop eye. She said “I don’t know ***** said they had a pill you could drop in the water and it would clear it right up.” I ask here the name of it she said she didn’t know. OK... Well I said there are very few miracle cures for anything. I said “pop eye is usually caused by bad water quality or injury, how long have you had the tank set up?”
She gave me this look and said three weeks. I already knew this was going to go bad, but I had to try I figured. I asked her how many fish do you have in the tank and when did you do your last water change? You ready for this? She said “ they told me I only had to do a water change once a month, and I have in the tank 1 yellow tang , 1 black and white heniochus, 3 damsels and a orbicular batfish and a lawnmower blenny, they said we have room for about 2 or 3 more fish. I ask her how big of tank she had she said a 29 Gallon. I about fell over. I said your tank is grossly over stocked, you should never add that many fish to a new tank. You have to do it gradually. If I was you I would return some of those fish, mainly the batfish, yellow tang and the heniochus. She went ballistic on me, she started yelling at me that all I am doing is trying to talk down ***** and make her come to our store so she could spend her money there instead of a Good Pet Store like *****.
Now my mistake with this customer... I laughed. I said M’am... If you think ***** is such a good store you might as well find out the hard way that your tank is heading for serious problems. I think you should go to them and have them give you this one pill cure. But when you learn the hard lesson of crashing your tank and all the fish dieing, feel free to come back and we will help you out. We can give you good advice and even recommend good fish for your tank. But, I can not help someone who is so closed minded and thinks that a place like ***** has any clue of what is going on or even can tell a customer the bare minimum of how to get a salt water tank going. By the way M’am we are locking up and you have a nice night.
I know I shouldn’t have gotten so pissy with her but I couldn’t help it. To have all them fish doomed to such a confined space. I also know that she will not come back since I was so gruff and yes rude. Well I just needed to rant, so it is done. What can I say … SHE REALLY PISSED ME OFF!!!!!
