Does anyone know any reliable/good LFS in the San Francisco/Monterrey areas? We are heading out that way for spring break and plan on going to the Monterrey aquarium and San Fran. Would like to see a different selection than what is available locally.
TIA!

I would recommend also going to the Steinhart Aquarium in San Francisco.

I think it's closed for remodeling.

According to their Web site, it's scheduled to open back up on March 31. Maybe they'll have a chance to see it. After Monterey Bay, it's probably my favorite public aquarium.

If you know what your doing, try 6th ave. The prices are fantastic but its a dirty little hole in the wall. Its been a long favorite but like I said, you have to know what your doing and what your looking at as they churn through stock. Items only are in store for 6 days then they ALL get bagged up and sold at 50-75% off every Sunday morning. My opinion dont go to the clearance on Sundays unless your a pro and know what your getting into with each species. Many damaged/abused that get overlooked during the week end up in the clearance.
Its between 5th and 6th on Clement in Frisco proper. Fun place to pick your own. You pull from the bins yourself. De- give it a try, those latest adds I posted are from there. Cant beat the price on Zoa's that you love so much.

Aquarium Concepts just opened up a new store in Dublin. It is huge, and they have a ton of livestock and products. Their prices are a fair, and the staff seems knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recomend you looking them up. Dublin is about 35 minutes east of San Francisco, with no traffic that is!

You guys are all making me miss the Bay Area. Then again, I've got fresh air, trees, open spaces...and lots of rain.

I need to go! I love aquarium concepts... I'm so disappointed they moved. I already had to cross the san mateo bridge and pay toll like twice a week to go  lol
reefforbrains- I know! I have been so busy! I have had no time to get up to the city. I really want to try out 6th avenue.

You can look up these places online, they all have wesites. They are in the Bay Area and have lovely corals!
New Alameda Aquatics ( the owner gives you great prices) Atlantis aquarium ( kind of overpriced, but beautiful rare corals)
The lucky gold fish
aquarium concepts
Ultimate aquarium doesn't have a website, but it's a great store. It's located on El Camino in San Mateo, which is about 15-20 mins away from SF. I doubt you will go to San Mateo, but if you do you can check out Fish for You, but he waits until all his corals are sold before he orders more, so i don't go there very often.
You can try the 6th avenue store in SF. I'm going to warn you it is a scary, ghetto and very dirty little store. i drove by it and was afraid to go in! lol but I'm going to check it out since reefforbrains said it's pretty good.

Amazon Aquarium in Alameda is just 5 minutes away from New Alameda Aquatics.
If you visit Lucky Goldfish make sure you ask him to see the corals in the midddle room. Inside the fish section there's a part that's closed off that he keeps many of his nice corals for fragging and clams.
Aquatic Bliss in Fremont is a good place to go for nice rarities, such as duncanopsammia, rhizotrochus, micros, acans, dendros, etc. Small store and only open weekends but they have a lot of nice stuff.
Atlantis also has a lot of similar corals and captive raised frags for $$$.

Are you acquainted with, and if so what is your opinion of, ALL ABOUT FISH in Concord? I live in Chico up north and it's the biggest shop I've ever seen.
Been there a couple of times, although never bought anything other than Fenner's book. Seemed like their specimens (And they have a ton of 'em) all generally looked in pretty good shape. Not in the market currently for any hardware/tankware, but they have a huge number of tanks/stands, with some marked down (Came within a hair's breadth of buying a set-up, but didn't have the room in the car to carry it). A not very asthetically pleasing warehouse type store, but their size and selection was impressive (At least to a window-shopper).
